AI is unquestionably a disruptive force, but it does not generate original content.

AUT Communications Studies focuses on this reality. The world will always need original content and creativity to generate it. At the heart of AUT’s training lies the imperative that students think beyond the superficial.

Strong communicators uncover a story using investigation abilities that are uniquely theirs. Resources like AI may assist this process. However, it will never be the process.

In a world where a lot of things seem to be going wrong it is critically important that communicators constantly ask the right questions and share the answers on all platforms – print and electronic media. This is the role of a well-trained journalist who connects authentically with others and captures their stories. Done well, those stories will inspire and improve our understanding of the world. This is an entirely human centred activity.

AI’s strength is that it saves research time by collating information and storing it in one place. Admittedly the storage facility is massive. However, it is still a narrow pipeline that totally bypasses human emotion and passion.

It is critically important that intelligent, emotionally connected thinkers interrogate the status quo and that highly trained people package it so that it connects effectively with an audience.

AUT Communications Studies trains students to do that excellently.
